As per the Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) update on March 19, 2024, open work permits will only be available to spouses of international students in master’s and doctoral programs in a university or polytechnic institution, or in certain professional degree programs at a university. As a result, your spouse will not be eligible to apply for an open work permit as of March 19, 2024.

Based on the information that we currently have from Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), you are still eligible to apply for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP). As per the IRCC update on March 22, 2024, if you are a current study permit holder and are graduating after May 15, 2024, you will continue to be eligible to apply for a PGWP.  Study permit renewals will not be impacted.
