CIFFA Certification at Fleming College Toronto

You’re a strategic thinker, a quick decision-maker, and an adaptable leader. In other words, you’re the perfect fit for the world of supply chain and logistics.

If you’re investing the time and effort to pursue this career, you will want to attain credentials that make you stand out to employers.

That’s why the Supply Chain Management – Global Logistics Program offers two certificates: one Fleming Certificate of Completion and one in Freight Forwarding from the Canadian International Freight Forwarding Association (CIFFA).

To learn more about the CIFFA Certificate, read below or skip to the heading that most interests you.

What is CIFFA?

Formed in 1948, Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association (CIFFA) is an important organization in Canada for those working in logistics. According to their website, the organization creates “uniform trade practices” and “regulations” for all industry workers in Canada once they’ve obtained a CIFFA certification.

Their website also states that CIFFA is recognized globally. As a result, the CIFFA name lets others know that “they’re working with trained professionals.”

How do I get a CIFFA Certificate?

CIFFA Certification is built directly into the program through two separate courses, which will be discussed below. To receive the certificate, you must have an overall standing of 70% in the mid-term and final examination of each of these 2 courses.

In the first semester, you will attend International Transportation and Trade, a 45-hour course that explores transportation and Incoterms rules.

According to the International Chamber of Commerce, Incoterms Rules “have become the standard in international business rules setting.” In other words, if you want to work in global business, it is essential to understand these rules.

In the second semester, Essentials of Freight Forwarding, another 45-hour course, will focus on how buyers and sellers manage risk. You will explore cargo insurance, dangerous goods, cargo security, and more.

By the end of these two courses, you will be ready to work as a freight forwarder, someone who strategically plans and organizes shipments to maximize efficiency and profits. In the global economy, this is an extremely significant role.

Benefits of CIFFA Credentials

There are many benefits to having CIFFA Credentials on your resume, but here are three of the most noteworthy.

  1. In Canada, employers consider CIFFA Certification a marker of excellence. This is because a CIFFA Certificate reflects your ability to optimize supply chains and handle freight effectively.
  2. Certified CIFFA Instructors (CCI) teach the courses mentioned above. All CCI instructors have at least 10 years of experience in the logistics industry and 3 years or more experience teaching related content. They employ student-centric teaching techniques and practical advice to ensure a fulfilling learning experience.

CIFFA Certification Cost

According to CIFFA, when taking courses directly through their organization, each course costs 690 CAD, meaning a total of 1380.00 for both courses mentioned above.

At Fleming College Toronto, the CIFFA Certification cost is included in the program, so you don’t have to worry about making any extra payments. See below.
